Youth Programs
Youth and Family Services consists of two programs: our Plan Ahead Youth Program, and our School Readiness Program.
Plan AheadOur Plan Ahead Youth Program supports the healthy development of approximately 75 Cambodian and Latino youths, ages 6-20, who participate year round in our after school and weekend activities. Our Youth Program promotes academic achievement, character development, and career exploration. About 50 parents who participate in parenting education, counseling, and referral services.
Our Youth Program has been highly successful. The high school graduation rate for Cambodian youths has increased from 50% in 1996 to 100% last year. Of those youths served in the past 10 years, over 100 have now graduated from high school and over 90 have gone on to attend college.
School ReadinessOur School Readiness program, funded by the Children and Families Commission of Orange County, is beginning its third year of operation. This program serves children ages 1-5 and focuses on child development, healthy emotional and brain development, and works with parents to promote family literacy and play. Four-year olds are provided with activities designed to prepare them for school. In the past three years, over 100 neighborhood children have been served under these programs.
